A Birmingham MP said the estimate of 400 – 500 Britons fighting in Syria was ‘nonsense’, claiming that more than twice as many British Muslims have travelled to Syria to fight for extremists. Ghaffar Hussain, managing director of the Quilliam Foundation an anti-extremism think tank, said that ISIS have plenty of Western recruits willing to partake in brutal violence. They were radicalised in the West before going to Syria. The ISIS message is slick and sophisticated. They’re the richest terrorist group in history with 2000+ European recruits. A former British diplomat in Iraq said British recruits originally travel with humanitarian ideals, but become brutalised by the conflict. He said, ‘They go out to try to protect civilians in Syria and enter into an underworld of violence. Others were impressionable young men escaping poverty and dead end jobs in the UK saying to themselves, ‘I could be a hero, or I could be a super villain.’
The head of NSPCC's helpline says it ‘beggars belief’ that information received by Rotherham council was not acted upon robustly. A report commissioned by Rotherham Borough Council and written by Professor Alexis Jay found that 1,400+ children were subjected to appalling sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. Professor Jay said there had been collective failures by the council's leadership and senior managers. Also South Yorkshire Police failed to prioritise the issues. Five Rotherham men were jailed for sexual offences against girls in 2010, but police regarded many child victims with contempt. Several staff described their nervousness about identifying the ethnic origins of perpetrators for fear of being thought as racist (perpetrators were of Pakistani origin), others remembered clear direction from their managers not to do so. Please pray that this expose will lead to better safeguarding of vulnerable children in the future and successful prosecutions of corrupt managers and officials.
The battle for Helmand contributes to a troubling security outlook for Afghanistan where the hard-line Taliban, in power from 1996 to 2001, are seeking to oust foreign forces and set up an Islamist state. Helmand province is the source of about half of Afghanistan's opium, and some areas have fallen under the control of drug dealers and the Taliban. In June, as many as 800 Taliban fighters were involved in some assaults on government offices and police outposts in Sangin. Afghan forces say they have killed 400 Taliban across Helmand since then. Please pray for wisdom for our government as they respond to the deeply worrying and barbaric attacks waged by ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) both with humanitarian and intelligence efforts. An average of one person a fortnight travels from the UK to Switzerland to receive help to take their own life, a study has suggested. Researchers from Zurich University said 126 Britons visited the country's clinics to die between 2008 and 2012. Euthanasia and assisted suicide are illegal in the UK, but the Swiss permit assisted suicide in some circumstances. Britons accounted for a fifth of the foreigners going to Swiss right-to-die facilities over the period. The total number of foreigners going to the country to die rose from 123 cases in 2008 to 172 in 2012. Some 611 people from 31 countries travelled to the country over the five-year period to take advantage of its liberal laws on assisted dying. British patients were second only to Germans as the biggest national group to seek help to end their lives in Switzerland
This is a call for Christians to pray as Muslims go on the Hajj. October 2 - 4, 2014! The Hajj, one of the five pillars of the Islamic religion, begins on the 8th day of the 12th month of Dhul Hijjah of the Islamic calendar. Because the calendar is based on the moon’s cycle, the Hajj begins nine days earlier each consecutive year. In 2014, the Hajj will start on 2 October the and last for 3-4 days. During this time, Muslims from all over the world will flock to Mecca to perform the rituals and follow the steps of Muhammad, their prophet. Anyone who is not a Muslim cannot enter Mecca, and therefore cannot perform the Hajj. Muslims go on the Hajj to be cleansed of sin; You can watch a short video about the Hajj on YouTube at:
The WYPA will connect hundreds of thousands, probably millions, of youth and children around the world in prayer that they may find their unique missions and callings of the Lord and that a whole new generation of Christian leaders may arise in every walk of life.
Next week in Hong Kong, a planning team of 20-25 youth and senior Christian leaders will gather to do the initial planning for the event in 2016. Would you please pray with and for us?
1 For Jerome and Abel Ocampo and their family (leaders of Jesus Revolution from the Philippines) as they take on the leadership of such a major undertaking as the WYPA. Pray His protection, wisdom, guidance and provision for them.
2. For unity and clarity with creativity for the planning team and that each one will be able to give the time and help needed according to his or her gifts and contacts.
3 For the WYPA to become widely known and anticipated by youth and children around the world and that it will catch on as a catalytic movement that is widely supported by Christian ministries and prayer networks around the world.
4 For generous donors to understand the significance of the WYPA and to step forward to provide the resources needed at each step in the process towards 2016 and for the event itself. An estimated $2 million will probably be needed.
God is answering as we cry out to Him about ISIS and its monstrous atrocities upon the Christians and other minorities in northern Iraq. The Iraq and Kurdish armies have managed to retake the Mosul dam, delivering ISIS its first defeat, thank the Lord! Let's continue to pray for the following:
1. That the international community and especially the USA will throw off all timidity and hesitation about taking the fight to ISIS in Iraq and their base in Syria and will fully engage with all their resources to utterly defeat and destroy this terrorist threat to the world.
2. That the new prime minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi, will be successful in uniting the Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish faction of the nation in a united front to fight and drive out the ISIS army. They have already retaken the Mosul dam so this is encouraging.
3 That the humanitarian aid effort will be well-coordinated and that there will be enough aid getting to the refugees in Kurdistan and other places to which they have fled for assistance.
4 That the powers of darkness and destruction controlling ISIS will be bound and driven from Iraq and Syria and that the Iraqi and Syrian Christians will be encouraged to continue praying with unity, faith and authority together. That ISIS soldiers will have visions and dreams of Jesus and give up their destructive course.
The NPA will bring together 300 Christian ministry leaders and intercessors from all walks of life and from across the nation to seek the Lord in the spirit of 2 Chron. 7:14 for repentance, reconciliation and restoration of our nation. It will come one week before our national election and will mainly be praying, not presentations or speakers.
1. Please pray for a “Gideon’s band of 300” who are specially called by the Lord for this time in Washington DC.
2. That these two days will be filled with the presence of God, His guidance and anointing, and that we will be able to get on His wavelength together to pray out courageous, history-changing prayers in agreement for our nation at this crucial time in its history.

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov says no progress has been made in Berlin talks on establishing a ceasefire between government and rebel forces in the east of Ukraine. Following the talks between Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine on Sunday, Lavrov said all issues related to sending a humanitarian convoy to Ukraine have been resolved. ‘One place where we cannot report positive results is in, first and foremost, establishing a ceasefire and [starting] a political process,’ Lavrov told a Berlin press conference that was carried live by Russian state television. Talks concluded with an agreement for the sides to meet again and continue trying to de-escalate the worst East-West crisis since the Cold War. Lavrov accused Kiev's new pro-European leaders of continually changing demands over what it would take to establish a truce after more than four months of fighting with pro-Russia separatists that has claimed more than 2,000 lives.
Militants of the self-proclaimed ‘People's Republic of Donetsk’ (PRD) seized the building of the church, ‘Word of Life’, where Leonid Padun, Bishop of the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church is a pastor, reports The Christian Telegraph. ‘PRD representatives seized the building of our church on Wednesday, August 13 at 10pm. Despite the fact that there are lots of vacant buildings in the city, they decided to take the house of God, which is in use every single day, and providing assistance to people in need,’ wrote Leonid Padun on his Facebook page. 'For over twenty years we have invested our hearts and finances to that church building and now we are deprived of the opportunity to gather for prayer and worship of God. With a heavy heart, I have to inform you that this Sunday the doors of our church for the first time will not be opened.'
